About us

Riverbank Veterinary Centre has been providing veterinary services to the people of Preston for over 40 years having been established by Nigel Sladen as a small animal practice.  Over the years the practice provided a caring and friendly service from more than one premises and now is based solely at 16-22 Watery Lane in Ashton, Preston.

We have always sought to provide quality veterinary services along with a friendly and welcoming but professional approach to all our clients and their pets whether they are dogs, cats, rabbits or one of the many other childrens pets.

We have two full time veterinary surgeons currently working at Riverbank:

Richard Armour - Senior Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Principal

Philippa Hardman - Assistant Senior Veterinary Surgeon

The practice has always prided itself in offering a  service  to the community provided by veterinary surgeons who have gained valuable experience over many years.

Richard Armour, the principal, graduated from Glasgow Veterinary School in 1983. Richard joined the practice as an assistant to Mr Sladen in 1996 and became the  practice owner in 2012.  He has a keen interest in radiology and dermatology.

Philippa Hardman qualified in 1991 from Bristol Veterinary School and enjoys medical cases of all types and also treating the variety of small furry pets. Philippa joined the practice in 2003.

The practice also comprises of five support staff who all contribute hugely to the success of the practice over the last three decades, with some staff having worked for the practice for more than twenty years, either as client care managers, nurses or a combination of the two.

Jackie Kinder is our  Support Staff Manager and has worked for Riverbank for over 28 years in two spells. She is responsible for personnel, health and safety and also all practice administration duties  while juggling  these roles with nursing and reception duties too.

From our single premises  we provide consultations from 9am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday and from 9am to 12.00 noon Saturdays.  We employ VETSNOW, a dedicated out of hours emergency service to provide specialist cover when the practice is closed and also over bank holidays. Please always contact Riverbank on tel no 01772  726745 in the first instance when requiring out of hours treatment or advise.

Practice facilities at Riverbank include:

Ample car parking adjacent to the practice with disabled facilities at the entrance.

Two operating rooms with modern gaseous anaesthetic circuitry

Xray facilities with automatic xray processor

Ultra sound scanner for assessing the internal structure of the various organs such as the liver, spleen and kidneys which xrays would not provide.

A high powered dental station capable of sectioning teeth and extracting difficult root fragments. Routine ultrasonic teeth cleaning is also provided.

ECG facilities for assessing heart function and evaluating the electric activity of the heart.

Electrocautery which assists in stemming awkward blood vessels and for removing some growths.

Laboratory work is provided by specialist outside laboratory with samples collected at least once daily so as to achieve the best results in a fast turn around time.

Consultations are scheduled for 15 mins each, longer than most practices provide, this allows ample time to really get to know a pet and also discuss problems thoroughly with their concerned owners. We feel this is appreciated by worried owners who wish to discuss their pets wellbeing  with our vets.
