Small animals and fireworks

Small animals living outside should not be forgotten.

Small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets and birds need special care as they are easily frightened and can die of a heart attack as a result of a loud noise.

Bring small animals indoors or into an outhouse or garden shed to give them extra protection.  If you are unable to bring an enclosure inside, turn it to face a wall or fence instead of an open garden.

Cover avaries or hutches with thick blankets or a duvet to block some of the noise and bright lights of the fireworks, but make sure there is enough ventilation.
